Christmas Countdown: Bible Verse Advent Calendar

It’s really easy to find a secular countdown-to-Christmas calendar—one loaded with sugar behind every door. It’s not always easy to find a Bible verse Advent calendar that takes kids through the Christmas story.

But that’s the kind I want—one with real Christmas symbols on the doors (not Santa and stockings), Bible verses from the Christmas story behind them, and laid out in proper succession taking us through the whole Christmas story.

My daughter LOVES these calendars, too. She’s not a fan of chocolate, but she is a fan of God. When she was 7, she asked for a “real” Bible. Most importantly, it couldn’t have any pictures.

I thought, now I just need an advent calendar with only scripture references behind the doors, so we have to look them up! Because when kids are transitioning to a “real” Bible, looking up verses and getting familiar with which books is actually interesting to them. Add Christmas verses into the mix, and we’ve got a sweet recipe for success.

If you know me, you can probably guess—I made one. And I’m sharing it with you! I’ve included two versions. One has the whole verse written out behind each door. The other has just the “address.”

Free Bible Verse Advent Calendar

This Advent calendar is perfect for looking up chapters and verses—and even just finding the different books in the Bible—especially if your kiddos are new at this.

Its scriptures range from age-old prophecies to Zechariah’s angel encounter to the wise men’s visit. Scriptures from Isaiah, Micah, Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John are all included.

The first option includes the entire verse written out. The second is just the scripture reference to look up. Use whichever best suits your family’s needs.

Print, cut the doors (on three sides) to open, and choose a spot to post. (It really helps to have an Exacto knife and a cutting pad.)

Read each day’s verse under its door or expand your reading to include the entire Bible section surrounding the daily verse. (Yes, I’m the one who gets carried away and does the latter).
