About Kindra Silk Kreislers
In fourth grade, Kindra won her first writing award. But not really, because she lost her book in her desk before it could go on to the next round of judging. Her teacher was mad enough to throw a chalkboard eraser. And she did.
In college, Kindra’s professor tried to talk her into a writing major. Kindra thought, “Ick. What would I do with that anyway?” So, she stuck to the highly marketable art major.
Since it really wasn’t all that marketable, she became a teacher—kindergarten through eighth grade. The middle grades were her favorites. Spoiler alert: That’s who she writes for now. And it feels like home.
How she began to write is a story in itself. Maybe one day she’ll tell it in all its glory. Here’s the short version:
Deep in the woods of northern Michigan, a voice spoke.
“Write for Me. Children’s Bible stories: Simple Truths.”
She tried to reason those words out of existence. But she couldn’t. So, Kindra added a Seminary writing certificate to her teaching degree. She accepted some invitations to preach–and a job as a children’s ministry director. All the while, behind the scenes, she wrote.
She went on to dry up a lot of pens and crumple up a lot of paper. And she quit a lot. Today, Kindra is a multi-award-winning children’s author.

- Dawn: A journey around the world in a humbling Creation story–1st place Oasis award 2025
- Raven and Dove: An endearing story dependent upon intriguing scientific details Noah knew well–1st place Oasis award 2026
- One: A culturally immersive Moses story–entering 2027
Kindra’s works in progress:
- A 10 Plagues series, challenging 10 specific Egyptian gods and winning a multitude of Egyptian hearts along the way
- Breath of Life: Watching the first human slowly awaken, paralleling human development from the womb

Kindra is open to independent or agented publishing. Also open to an experienced illustrator with portfolio and at least one published book.
