I’ve struggled feeling assured I’m getting in the gates. I mean, if I really love God, why would I ever disobey?
Instead, I wrestle—like Jacob. My mind fights to rationalize what I should do against what I want to do.
There are times it’s not a struggle—when my will and His are aligned.
There are other times I wrestle—and I chose my own way. I make my own rules—myself my own god.
I’m an idolator.
And the idol is me.
The Litmus Test
I recently preached a full-length child-centered (but still applicable to adults) sermon on two pieces from Jesus’ words to the disciples in John 14 and 15—from their conversation at the last supper.
Jesus is about to die and leave them. He hasn’t much time left. And these bits were important enough to not only say once but to repeat. He really wanted them to get this.
Because it was the litmus test to know if they really loved him. It’s also ours—to know if we really love God.
You can watch my sermon here. It’s titled “If You Love Me” and is a part of our One-Way series at The Church in Drive.
There were many times Jesus was given an either-or question or decision to make—usually to trap him. He’d choose neither and offer a third and better way.
There were other times he gave others an either-or with clear lines drawn.
On which side do you fall?

Enjoy, fellow Pioneer.
And remember: Whatever territory you’re navigating, keep cultivating their seeds of faith—simply—for real legacy.
